Handwashing
Hospitals should adhere to hand hygiene best practices identified by Leapfrog's National Hand Hygiene Expert Panel and adopted in part from the World Health Organization’s Hand Hygiene Self-Assessment Framework.
The measure assesses a hospital's adherence to best practices in the following five (5) domains:
- Monitoring, including monitoring proper hand hygiene technique
- Feedback, including evaluation and use of compliance data
- Training and Education, including demonstrations of technique
- Infrastructure, including hand sanitizer dispensers
- Culture, including leadership buy-in

- 2024
Patients Included in the Measure
- Inpatients (Patients who are admitted to the hospital for at least one overnight stay)
- Outpatients (Patients who are admitted and discharged on the same day)
- Adults and Children
