Healthcare-Associated Infections
Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) are infections that were not present when a patient was admitted to the hospital, but develop in the hospital as the result of poor infection control.
On October 20, 2026, Leapfrog adopted the 2022 NHSN Baseline and Risk Adjustment Model and updated the cut-points used in scoring for each of the five HAI measures. Leapfrog also updated the reporting period for the HAI measures for hospitals that reported 50 or fewer staffed beds on their 2025 NHSN Annual Survey. The updated cut-points and reporting period for small hospitals will be used for the final two NHSN downloads of the 2026 Survey Cycle (October 22 and December 17, 2026).
