Bariatric Surgery for Weight Loss

There are several different types of bariatric surgery for weight loss, including gastric sleeve surgery, gastric bypass, and lap band surgery.

This measure assesses the following:

• A hospital's experience performing the procedure against Leapfrog's hospital volume standard of 50 procedures per year and
• Whether the hospital’s process for privileging its surgeons includes requiring the surgeon to meet Leapfrog's annual surgeon volume standard of 20 procedures per year, and

Reporting Period 

• Surveys submitted prior to September 1: 01/01/2023 - 12/31/2023
• Surveys (re)submitted on or after September 1: 07/01/2023 - 06/30/2024 

Patients Included in the Measure

• Inpatients (Patients who are admitted to the hospital for at least one overnight stay)
• Outpatients (Patients who are admitted and discharged on the same day)
• Adults
