Rate of Unplanned Hospital Visits within 7 days of an Outpatient Colonoscopy

Unplanned hospital visits after a colonoscopy can be a sign of poor quality. Reasons for an unplanned hospital visit include perforation and bleeding. Perforation is a tear through the wall of the bowel that may allow leakage of intestinal fluids. This measure assesses a surgery center's rate of unplanned hospital visits, including emergency department visits, observation stays, and unplanned inpatient admissions after outpatient colonoscopy procedures.
