Cesarean Sections

Experts agree that cesarean sections (C-sections), particularly among low-risk, first-time mothers, may not be necessary and can be actually be risky for mother and baby. This measure assesses a hospital's rate of C-sections for first-time mothers giving birth to a single baby, at full-term, in the head-down position.

Reporting Period

  • Surveys submitted prior to September 1: 01/01/2023 - 12/31/2023
  • Surveys (re)submitted on or after September 1: 07/01/2023 - 06/30/2024

Patients Included in the Measure

  • Inpatients (Patients who are admitted to the hospital for at least one overnight stay)
  • Adults
