Radiation Dose for Head Scans

Because radiation used for Computed Tomography (CT) is far higher than conventional radiographs (x-rays), it is important for hospitals to monitor their dosage when scanning children given their smaller size and lower body weights. Hospitals report their doses for routine head CT scans.

 

Time Period Covered

  • 01/01/2018 - 12/31/2018 (Surveys submitted prior to September 1, 2019) 
  • 07/07/2018 - 06/30/2019 (Surveys submitted on or after September 1, 2019)

Patients Included in the Measure

  • Inpatients (Patients who are admitted to the hospital for at least one overnight stay)

  • Outpatients (Patients who are admitted and discharged on the same day)

  • Children
