Handwashing

Surgery centers should adhere to hand hygiene best practices identified by Leapfrog's National Hand Hygiene Expert Panel and adopted in part from the World Health Organization’s Hand Hygiene Self-Assessment Framework.

The measure assesses surgery center adherence to practices that fall into the following five (5) domains:

• Monitoring, including monitoring proper hand hygiene technique
• Feedback, including evaluations and use of compliance data
• Training and Education, including demonstrations of technique
• Infrastructure, including hand sanitizer dispensers
• Culture, including leadership buy-in
